Giving a big boost to regional connectivity, PM Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated India’s 100th and Sikkim’s maiden airport, the Pakyong airport.
Sikkim first ever airport
The airport is situated at a height of 4,500 feet from sea level and has been constructed at a cost of more than Rs 600 crore. The airport is spread over 201 acres and is located on top of a hill about two km above Pakyong village.
The first commercial flight from Pakyong would begin from October 4
During inaugration PM Modi stated that work is progressing at a rapid pace to strengthen both, infrastructural and emotional connectivity to Sikkim and rest of the northeastern region.
